A Brief Report on India International Handwoven Fair held at Chennai
Trade Centre,
Chennai from 16th to 18th February, 2011. |
Participation in trade fairs stimulates faster action in promoting sales abroad than any other avenues available. The combination of an attractive exhibit and an enigmatic well-informed representative at the stall of a Trade Fair is almost unbeatable, no matter what the show is.
At the same time, the increase of high-speed transportation, trade fairs and exhibitions have attained a special status in the international trade scenario. Buyers are learning to take advantage of expanded airline and shipping schedules to get themselves where they could procure right kind of goods.
At this juncture, it is imperative to note that the current scenario in the International fairs is changing with some of the reputed fairs losing ground and some new fairs emerging.
HEPC has, therefore, decided to organize an exclusive fair for handloom products in India for the exclusive benefit of new and small entrepreneurs who could not afford to participate in the fairs held abroad due to the high cost involved in transportation and other related expenses involved.
This fair has been organized under MAI Scheme of Ministry of Commerce and Industry. 82 member exporters hailing across the Country have participated in this fair to showcase their products.
50 buyers from Countries such as Brazil, Japan, Italy, France, Ireland, Poland, Sweden, Nepal, Tajikistan, South Africa, Uganda, Spain Germany, U.S.A., Serbia, U.A.E., Indonesia, Kuwait, Bulgaria and Kazakhstan have visited the fair.
The fair was inaugurated by Smt. Rita Menon, I.A.S., Secretary, Ministry of Textiles at 11.a.m. on 16-2-2011. Secretary has also launched the new logo of HEPC brought out in association with National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. A Fashion Show by “Rehane” was organized at 6.30 p.m. on 16-2-2011. Shri R. Rajagopal, Principal Secretary, Department of Textiles, Govt. of Tamilnadu was the Chief Guest for the event.
ON 17-2-2011, Bharathanatyam and Fusion dance was performed by Ms. Shobana at 6.30 p.m. Shri R.N. Choubey, Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, has been the Chief Guest for this cultural event. After the programme, Prize Distribution function was held and Development Commissioner for Handlooms distributed awards for Best Designers and Best Stalls.
The Council had established a Theme Pavilion with the concept “Modern Traditions…….Natureally Handlooms” which showcased the range of products being sold.
As per the feedback report received from our member participants, business visitors have booked spot orders worth of Rs. 1.60 crores, besides concrete enquiries to the tune of Rs. 7.20 crores. All the participants have expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by HEPC and wanted to repeat their participation in the next edition also. Further, it has been opined by one and all that the next edition should have more number of participants and also more number of business visitors.
The Council has, therefore, submitted a project proposal to Ministry of Commerce & Industry to consider under MAI Scheme in which it has been proposed to establish 100 stalls and to invite 200 buyers from different parts of the globe under Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet category. The Council is also hoping to establish useful links in this regard with all concerned.
